It is very sad what happened to Mike Tyson's daughter. Although I do not have a treadmill at home, I do have window blinds with cords. My grandsons come over weekly, so I walked around my home and made sure all the cords were out of their reach. I wrote a blog a few months ago about child safety and blind cords, but this tragedy just reminded me that we cannot be too careful. Protect Your Children at Home

Window coverings can pose a potential strangulation hazard to children. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, since 1990, more than 200 infants and young children have died by accidently strangling in window cords. Parents and guardians should replace all window coverings in the home with today's safer cordless products or with shutters. Please read the tips below:
1. Make existing shades and blinds more child safe with the addition of cord cleats and cord tensioners, free with the order of your blinds.
2. Eliminate cords by replacing blinds and shades with shutters.
3. Always keep windows closed and locked when small children are in the room
4. Do not place cribs or other furniture near windows
5. Never allow anything to dangle in a crib or bed
6. Never allow long window covering pull cords to "puddle" on the floor next to the window
7. Make sure new window blinds and shades have the highest quality child safety devices:
* Cordless Cellular Shades
* Cord Cleats
* Cord Tensioners for Continuous Cord Loops
To use a cord cleat, install the device high and out of the reach of small children and then wind excess cord around it. This prevents children from becoming entangled in the dangling cord. For window treatments with a cord loop, install a cord tensioner to keep cords taught and prevent them from twisting and tangling.
8. Hang stylish crib comforters or other bedding items on the wall, instead of placing them in the crib. Fluffy comforters or pillows, while adorable, have the potential to smother or suffocate a baby.
9. A spring-loaded lid-support device for toy chests is useful to prevent the lid from falling on a child's neck or from trapping a child playing inside the chest
10. Changing tables should always have safety straps.
